Included in packs of '89-90 Topps were the standard team sticker cards that were packaged in with many of the '80s Topps hockey sets. The Whalers were not represented within the first 12 stickers, each of which depict one of the league's stars. They do however, like all teams, have a team sticker in the set:
Team Stickers #25 - Hartford Whalers
So, that's a complete 1989-90 Topps Whalers team set, the first of many I'll be featuring here on Whalers Hockey Cards. Eventually I hope to complete a Whalers master collection of every card from every year (excluding 1/1s, etc), but it's going to be a while if it ever happens at all. In the meantime, if there's a particular team set you'd like to see leave me a comment!
This is awesome. I'm glad you finally broke down and went for it with this page. There needs to be more individual team oriented pages out there I think. Especially ones done right by super-fans like yourself. And especially for teams that don't get the love like they should. I added this to my blogroll on my site. I hope you don't mind.
ReplyDeleteThanks DFG! I definitely appreciate the blogroll add. I'm glad at least one other person out there will be reading ;)
ReplyDeletewhere be the follow button?
ReplyDeleteand I'm surprised I wasn't overwhelmed by 'Brass Bonanza' when I opened the page....
Great idea! I'm looking forward to seeing some of the older and more obscure sets!
ReplyDeleteThanks guys! Captain, the only option I have for a Followers element is a Google+ Followers piece, which as giving me some trouble. I'm going to look at it some more over the weekend...
ReplyDeleteThe guy who stands out for me is John Anderson who was a highly successful head coach for the IHL-AHL Chicago Wolves. He led the team to championships twice in each league.
ReplyDeleteThanks Hackenbush...you actually touched on something that I hope to focus on here, it's amazing just how many former Whalers players have gone on to have successful careers as coaches or in other positions in the world of hockey...
ReplyDeleteThe follower function was shut down by Google/Blogger so that people could start using Google Plus...but it's still there. You have to open up the gadgets and do a search for it. It isn't readily available but it is still on there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip DFG, I found the gadget and it has now been added!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading some Whale! Good idea and good luck.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I saw a post on your other blog about your love for the Whalers I immediately thought of this
